5 Simple Tips to Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera
If you’re feeling a little nervous about having your photos taken, you are not alone, even I feel that way when getting my headshots done!
One of the most common things I hear from couples and families is “we’re awkward in photos” or “we don’t know what to do.” And I get it, being in front of the camera can feel unfamiliar at first.
The good news is, it doesn’t have to feel that way!
Here are a few simple things that can make a huge difference in how comfortable and natural you feel during your session.
You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
This is probably the biggest one. You don’t need to show up knowing what to do, that’s my job. I’ll guide you the entire time in a way that feels natural and easy. Nothing will feel stiff or overly posed.
Most of the time, I’m just prompting you to move, talk, and interact with each other. I want you to be having fun.
Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera
The best photos happen when you’re not thinking about the camera at all. Talk to each other, laugh, be a little goofy.
When your focus is on each other instead of how you look, everything starts to feel more natural.
Wear Something You Feel Good In
If you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing it will show. Choose outfits that feel like you, something you can move in, sit in, and relax in.
When you feel good, you look good. It’s that simple!
It’s Okay to Feel a Little Awkward at First
Almost everyone feels a bit awkward in the first few minutes, that’s completely normal.
Give yourself a little time to settle in, I promise it gets easier quickly. Most couples end up laughing
and saying “that was actually fun” by the end.
You Don’t Have to Be Perfect
You don’t need to have the perfect smile, perfect pose, or perfect moment.
Some of the best photos come from the in-between, the laughs, the movement, the real moments. And that’s what I’m there to capture.
At the end of the day, your session shouldn’t feel stressful or intimidating, it should feel fun, relaxed, and like hanging out with a friend.
And I’ll be right there to make sure it feels exactly like that!
